Our beliefs are rooted in who God is, how He has chosen to reveal himself to us. Covenant Partners (members) at River of Grace subscribe to the following simple evangelical, orthodox belief statement:
We believe . . .
- the Bible to be the infallible and complete Word of God,
that it is
His holy and inspired Word, and that it is of supreme and final
authority.
- in one God, eternally existing in three persons -- Father,
Son, and
Holy Spirit.
- in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin
birth, in His
sinless life, in His miracles, in His death on our behalf on the
cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand
of the Father, and in His soon personal return in power and
glory.
- that the Holy Spirit enters the life of each believer
at salvation and
gives gifts to each for the common good in accordance with God's
sovereign will.
- that all people everywhere are lost and face the judgment
of God,
and need to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through
His shed blood on the cross.
- in holy Christian living, and that we must have concern
for the
hurts and social needs of others.
In particular, we teach a gently** Reformed understanding that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, all for the glory of God alone. The Gospel is about God, not us. His grace, first and last. He acts, we respond. We did not find Him. He found us. And while we are called to respond in repentance and belief, even these are gifts from him. (**We choose to use the word "gently" because we refuse to fight over words, and fall into the trap of theological arrogance.)
